One Planet vision for a responsible recovery of the tourism sector
The tourism sector has been one of the forerunners in the ESG debate, influenced by the development of sustainable tourism and aware of the environmental impact of its high consumption.
In May 2020 theUnited Nations World Tourism Organization launched the program “One Planet vision for a responsible recovery of the tourism sector”, with the aim of transforming tourism into an effective action on climate, focusing in particular on halving emissions by 2030 and other valuable initiatives at global level have been activated for actions regarding human rights, youth employment, climate change and water management.
According to a recent study by Deloitte and AICEO (Sustainability Objective – New development trajectories for Italian tourism), "today's tourism sector is profoundly changed. Demand has changed, with tourists' new priorities and their new, more conscious way of traveling, just as supply has changed, with players increasingly innovative and attentive to the needs of their customers and the impact generated by their activities. It is precisely now, therefore, that it is particularly important to think about tourism from an eco-sustainable perspective, both from the point of view of tourists and operators in the sector, to be able to seize the opportunities of this historical moment, also offered by the funds and incentives of the PNRR, to contribute to the relaunch of the sector and, at the same time, to the preservation of our world for generations to come".
